In the tennis world, the tournaments of Roland Garros, the US Open, or Open of Australia are universally known. Now the Soweto Open in South Africa hopes to join the league. The famous township, a symbol of the anti-apartheid fight where Nelson Mandela lived, has started its own. With a price of 100,000 US dollars (around 75,000 Euros), the tournament has attracted stars such as Frenchman Fabrice Santoro and Gilles Muller of Luxembourg, who beat Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon in 2005.
