Revenge Denied

A dejected looking Roger Federer of Switzerland takes a break during his match against Nikolay Davydenko of Russia during the semifinal match of the ATP Qatar ExxonMobil Open at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex on January 8, 2010 in Doha, Qatar.

Roger Federer lost his second match in a row to Nikolay Davydenko 6-4, 6-4 in the Qatar Open semifinals today. The world No. 1 disapppointed his supportive fans in what has become his second hometown. Crestfallen, he exited stage left with a perfunctory wave.
Rafael Nadal, who blitzed Viktor Troicki 6-1, 6-3 in the opening match, stood in the stands and witnessed it. He appeared to be cheering for Raja. I probably would have, too, especially after watching the Russian serve 100% first serves in the opening set. Younes El Aynaoui, who will hang up his racquet at 38, also bore witness to the "epic victory."
That's what Robbie Koenig called it when Kolya was two points away. Seriously. Guess he too believed Raja was unbeatable.
It was interesting to see Raja so flustered. According to the commentators, he's been shaking off his right wrist in practice the last few days. A niggling injury perhaps.
He better listen to his body.
