Venus Ascends To No. 2

Venus Williams of the U.S. celebrates winning against Francesca Schiavone of Italy after their Madrid Open tennis match May 12, 2010.

With her three-set victory of Italian veteran Francesca Schiavone earlier today, Venus Williams knocks Caroline Wozniacki out of the second spot and rises to No. 2 in the world.

For the first time since 2003, Serena Williams, despite her three-set loss to Nadia Petrova earlier, are the top two players in the world.

So, after all the conflama about the sisters' commitment to the sport over the years, there they sit, together, atop the sport once more.

The best revenge is living well.

Congratulations to both for yet another historic achievement in one of sport's most demanding.
